Favorite Books

These social stories about wearing masks have been a huge help this year. Because my students are under the age of 5 they aren't required to wear masks while at school, however it is encouraged. We read these books during our library time to the students, in hopes of them becoming comfortable wearing their masks and seeing the teachers in theirs (staff is required to wear a mask at all times). Now all of our students are voluntarily wearing their masks when at school with the exception of when they are eating and during recess.

  1. I truly understand how hard it can be to get children to wear a mask. At the beginning of all of this, my youngest who is 5, expressed how uncomfortable he was wearing a face mask. He said that he couldn't breathe and it was hard for him to communicate with the world. So I invested in a children's face mask with a clear window on the front of it. It gives him more space between his nose and the mask. It also gives him confidence in that he can speak comfortably and we can clearly see what he is saying. It is a blessing to know that there are individuals like you and your coworkers who are acting as role models for the children to wear their masks. I really love how creative you are in finding books that make the pandemic and why we have to wear masks easier for the children to understand.

    1. Thank you so much! It took a while to find some good ones, I'm just glad they worked. It's definitely hard for me to communicate with my students and understand what they are saying. It's been challenging but we are working though it. That's awesome you were able to get your son masks with a clear window!
